Paraprofessional

 

Under the direct supervision of an assigned instructor, the Teaching Paraprofessional will monitor and/or perform duties to assist in individualized or group instruction as well as confer with the teacher regarding individual student progress.

 

One of the most important duties of all teaching Paraprofessionals is to supervise and monitor the playground and lunchroom.

 

This entry-level position is distinguished from the certified teaching staff by accreditation requirements and performance of duties not requiring lesson planning, diagnosing, and prescribing or evaluating student progress.

 

Examples of Typical Tasks:

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Paraprofessional must fulfill one of the three following requirements:

  1. Complete at least two years of study at an institutional of higher education; or
  2. Obtain an associate (or higher) degree; or
  3. Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment (Paraprofessional Test).

Preferred experience with assisting in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics, and knowledge of, and the ability to assist with the instruction of reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness as appropriate.

 

Bilingual preferred, but not required.
