Purpose Statement

The job of teacher was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum /standard guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

 

Expected caseload of less than 10 students with minimum of two paraprofessionals assigned as needed for caseload and instructional support.  Self-contained classroom.

 

Essential Functions:

· Designs instructional experiences aligned learning standards, developmentally appropriate, and adapted where needed, and delivered in the least restrictive environment.

· Writes Individual Educational Programs for all students placed in the classroom, maintain these IEP's, and also coordinate with staff to adequately fulfill the programming needs of each student as directed by the IEP and the student's individualized needs.

· Keeps adequate records of student progress and communicate to parents/guardian regarding the progress of student. Meet regularly with the parents of each student.

· Directs paraeducators, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.

· Administers subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or using that data to plan for intervention.

· Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations to engage families in the instructional program; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.

· Assesses student progress towards instructional outcomes, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.

· Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel and parents for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives/outcomes in support of the school improvement plan.

· Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements/achievement.

· Use a variety of teaching and behavioral strategies in order to manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

· Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, hallways) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

· Implement district assessments where needed such as WA-AIM, WAKids, etc.

· Participates in monthly data meetings with administration to discuss student achievement for the purpose of making sure teacher has the resources and professional development needed. Teacher will be prepared to discuss data in detail and note all intervention, in process or planned, based on the data.

· Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, individualized education plans, anecdotal records) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.

· Reports incidents (e.g. suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to the Education Code and school policies.

· Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

· Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.

 

Experience:

Teaching students with autism experience preferred but not required.

Bilingual preferred but not required.

 

Certificates & Licenses

Special Education endorsement as required by Washington State.

Continuing Education/Training and Clearances

Annual Training and Inservice Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.

Maintenance of a valid certificate as required of the job
