Purpose Statement
The job of teacher was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum /standard guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Essential Functions

• Designs instructional experiences aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and district curriculum (e.g. STEMscopes or Mystery Science).
• Uses instructional technology to coordinate virtual teaching, communicate with students, and partner with parents (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Office365, STEMscopes, ClassDojo, etc.)
• Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans (differentiating instruction).
• Administers subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or using that data to plan for intervention.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations to engage families in the instructional program; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
• Assesses student progress towards instructional outcomes, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel and parents for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives/outcomes in support of the school improvement plan.
• Coordinates a variety of activities (e.g. field trips, transportation, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment, materials and personnel to achieve objectives/outcomes.
• Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health and well-being, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements/achievement all within the state standards for Science/NGSS.
• Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study which are aligned with state standards/NGSS.
• Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, hallways, field trips) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Participates in monthly data meetings with administration to discuss student achievement for the purpose of making sure teacher has the resources and professional development needed.  Teacher will be prepared to discuss data in detail and note all intervention in process or planned based on the data.
• Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
• Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to the Education Code and school policies.
• Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.

Experience: 
Secondary Science experience preferred but not required.

Danielson Framework used for teacher evaluation.

Bilingual preferred but not required. 

Certificates & Licenses
Washington State Teacher Certificate with a middle school science endorsement or K-8 endorsement as required by Washington State and Highly Qualified rules and regulations.  Science endorsement preferred.

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.

Maintenance of a valid certificate as required of the job
